Attempt for Everest: What changes will there be in the Ford SUV coming to India?


  • Ford Motor is likely to return to India with the Endeavor as one of its major launches by next year.
The Ford Everest SUV, which is basically the global version of the carmaker’s Endeavor model, was recently spotted in Chennai, sparking speculation about the US-based auto giant’s return to India.

Ford Motor is reportedly planning to return to India after a gap of two years. The models it may launch include the Endeavour, which once rivaled other models like the Toyota Fortuner in the large SUV segment. The possibility of Ford returning to India with the Endeavor gained momentum after the global version of the SUV, Everest, was spotted in Chennai along with another Ford model. According to reports, Endeavor may return to India by 2025. However, there is no official statement from the US-based carmaker on this yet.

The return of the Endeavor in a new avatar promises to reshape the large SUV segment which is currently dominated by its Toyota rival. Here’s a look at how much the Ford Endeavor SUV has changed since it left Indian shores.

Ford Endeavour/Everest: Specifications

The new generation Endeavor, sold as Everest in global markets like Australia, South-east Asia, is set to debut in 2022 months after Ford’s India exit. In its new incarnation, the Endeavor’s size grew to a whopping 146 mm wide, despite the platform remaining the same ladder-frame architecture used in the Endeavour. The length and height of the SUV also increased marginally, while the wheelbase increased from 2,850 mm to 2,900 mm, promising more space inside the cabin.

In terms of design, the Endeavor has undergone a number of changes while maintaining its great road presence from the Endeavor days. The shape of the SUV has now become sharper and squarer with a larger grille at the front and matrix LED headlights and LED DRL units. The headlight units are connected by a horizontal bar. On the sides, the profile of the Everest has received more character lines and prominent shoulder line for a stronger look. The size of alloy wheels ranges between 17 inches to 21 inches depending on the variant. The rear of the SUV has L-shaped LED taillights.

The SUV comes with a number of modern features including a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, powered tailgate, auto-folding third row seats and more. The interior of the SUV comes with an all-black theme.

Ford Endeavour/Everest: Engine, Performance

The Everest SUV seen in India is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel or 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine. The turbo engine can generate power of 168 bhp while the bi-turbo can generate power of 208 bhp. Torque output peaks at 405 Nm and 500 Nm. The turbo diesel engine uses a 6-speed automatic transmission while the Bi-Turbo gets a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both gearboxes get SelectShift and Ford offers 4×2 as well as 4×4 drivetrains. Ford sells the Everest SUV in two other variants called Sport and Platinum. Both these variants are offered with a more powerful 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine that produces 247 bhp of power and 600 Nm of peak torque.
