IPL Playoff Scenarios: How RCB and CSK Can Qualify in the Year 2024

IPL Playoff Scenarios: How RCB and CSK Can Qualify in the Year 2024.

The Royals Challengers Bengaluru secured yet another win this IPL season, keeping their playoff dreams alive. Led by Faf Du Plessis, they convincingly defeated the Delhi Capitals by 42 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Batting first on their home ground, RCB posted a formidable 187/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Subsequently, the RCB bowlers, spearheaded by Yash Dayal and Cameron Green, brought their team back on track by bowling out the Delhi Capitals for 140 runs, securing their 5th successive win of the season.

RCB Qualification Scenario:

With this victory over the Delhi Capitals, RCB now occupies the 5th spot on the IPL points table and stands a chance of making it to the playoffs if they defeat the Chennai Super Kings in their final game. However, a win against CSK won’t guarantee qualification if Sunrisers Hyderabad or Lucknow Super Giants win their remaining matches and reach 16 points.

RCB will face the Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18. By that time, LSG will have completed all their IPL matches, while SRH will have one more match to play. If SRH and LSG fail to reach 16 points, RCB can secure a playoff berth by scoring over 200 runs and winning the match by a margin of 18 runs or more to surpass CSK on net run rate.

CSK Qualification Scenario:

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings have already accumulated 14 points after defeating the Rajasthan Royals. If CSK manages to win their match against RCB on May 18, they are likely to secure a playoff spot this year, given their significantly higher net run rate compared to other teams. Currently placed 3rd on the points table, CSK has secured 7 wins from 13 matches, boasting a net run rate of +0.528.
