Mark Zuckerberg overtakes Elon Musk in Bloomberg billionaires list

Mark Zuckerberg overtakes Elon Musk

Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk compete for the top spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now the third richest person in the world.
  • For the first time since 2020, Zuckerberg’s wealth has overtaken Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
  • Musk’s wealth has declined as Tesla shares have fallen more than 34% since the beginning of the year.

There’s a new round in the billionaire feud between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk — and this time, the Meta CEO is on top.

Zuckerberg on Friday became the third-richest person on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with his net worth reported at $187 billion. According to the Fortune report, this is the first time Zuckerberg has reached the top three of the ranking since 2020.

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Musk has moved to fourth place with a net worth of $181 billion.

The news comes as Tesla sold just 386,800 cars in the first quarter of 2024, the company’s first year-over-year sales decline in nearly four years. After this news, the company’s shares fell by more than 7% in early trading and since the beginning of 2024, the company’s shares have fallen by more than 34%.

With another $30 billion in the bank, Zuckerberg is closing in on the wealth levels of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. According to Bloomberg, Bezos’s total wealth is $207 billion and he is in second place. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault tops the list with a net worth of $223 billion.

There is a fight going on between Zuckerberg and Musk over many other things than just their fate.

The disagreement among tech executives has been ongoing since 2016 when a SpaceX explosion destroyed a Facebook satellite. And their public rivalry heated up after Musk challenged Zuckerberg to a cage fight last year. Meta’s launch of X’s rival social media platform Threads hasn’t helped ease tensions between the two.
