This Indian SUV emerges as best-seller, beating all Japanese, Korean rivals

 

Indian SUV: The Tata Nexon has emerged as the best-selling SUV in India for the third consecutive year, beating its Japanese and Korean rivals in FY24. The SUV has retained its number one position despite a decline in its sales in August 2023 as the facelifted model was scheduled to launch in September 2023.

Tata Nexon recorded wholesale sales of 171,697 units in FY24, finishing ahead of models like Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio. This was the best selling SUV FY22 and FY23 At 124,130 units and 172,139 units respectively.

Tata Motors’ SUV volume Tata Punch got a big boost in the last financial year and sold 170,076 units, just behind Tata Nexon.

Direct competitor of Tata Nexon Maruti Suzuki BrezzaSales stood at 169,897 units in FY24, while the mid-size segment leader, Hyundai Creta was lagging behind at 161,653 units. Mahindra Scorpio including N and Classic recorded impressive sales of 141,462 units in FY24.

Transmission options for the petrol unit include 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCA. The diesel unit can be mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AMT.
