Toyota Urban Cruiser Tazer SUV to launch tomorrow: Price and features expected


The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taser is going to be a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki’s smallest SUV, the FrontX. The Tajer will be the fourth Toyota model to be launched.

Toyota Motor has shared the first set of teasers of its upcoming SUV urban cruiser Taser, revealing a number of details about the Japanese auto giant’s adoption of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

Toyota Motor is all set to launch its first car in India this year by unveiling the Urban Cruiser Taser. The carmaker will launch its smallest SUV ever which is based on the Maruti Suzuki Suzuki Fronx. The Japanese auto giant will announce the price of the Tasar SUV tomorrow (April 3) and is expected to open bookings for the SUV on the same day. Toyota has already shared a teaser video of the upcoming model revealing several changes in the rebadged version of the Maruti SUV. Here’s a look at the expected changes in the design, features and expected price of the Taisor SUV.

The urban cruiser Tasar will be the fourth Maruti model to be rebadged by Toyota. The carmaker had earlier adopted the Baleno, Brezza and Ertiga to launch models like Glanza, Urban Cruiser and Roomian. All of these rebadged models had subtle design changes. Compared to these models, the urban cruiser Taser will probably have more changes.

The teaser video has revealed that Toyota will be updating the grille and headlight units on the Taser. Unlike the Forex, the Tata SUV will come with a slimmer unit by skipping the tri-LED setup. The chrome around the Toyota logo will also be changed. At the rear, the SUV will come with a connected LED strip. Changes are also expected in the bumpers at both ends and alloy wheels.

Compared to the exterior, the Tasar’s cabin is unlikely to see major changes other than fresh upholstery. The same 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, driver display, 360 degree camera, Head Up Display (HuD) and other features are expected to continue in the Taisor as well.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taser: Engine and Transmission

Under the hood, the Toyota Tasar SUV is expected to borrow the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol units from the crossover. Toyota may offer a hybrid version with one engine. A CNG version is also expected to be launched later. Transmission duties will be handled by a five-speed manual gearbox in addition to an automatic unit.

The urban cruiser Tasar will enter the small SUV segment where it will compete with other cars like Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger. At its price point, it is also expected to give tough competition to models like Tata Punch and Hyundai Xcent SUV.

Toyota generally prices its rebadged Maruti models higher than its technology siblings. For example, the Glanza is priced around ₹ 20,000 more than its technology cousin, the Baleno. Taisor is expected to be available at almost a premium Rs 35,000 on fronts. The starting price of Maruti SUV is 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom). The estimated starting price of Taisor SUV can be this much Go up to Rs 7.85 lakh Rs 13.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
