According to a new report, Google’s upcoming Pixel 8a is also getting a 120Hz display, Tensor G3 display output, and wider availability worldwide.
Android Authority The report says that the Google Pixel 8a, which is expected to launch at or near Google I/O in May, will bring some notable upgrades.
The first and probably most user-facing will be the display upgrade. The Pixel 8a will apparently have a 6.1-inch FHD+ display at 120Hz. This is above 90Hz on the Pixel 7a. The display will be noticeably brighter with a higher peak brightness of 1,400 nits when showing HDR content.
As for the display, this will apparently be Google’s first Pixel with display output support at launch. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro recently added this functionality with the latest Android 14 beta update.
The other big change in hardware will be the Tensor G3, which is an expected upgrade. Google will apparently follow a similar path to the Pixel 7a, using a very different version of the Tensor G3 that may not be as heat efficient to cut costs, but will be similar to the version found in Google’s flagships. The cameras are unchanged, apparently, with the same 64MP sensor used for the main shooter, supported by an ultrawide camera. This, and the other details above, are apparently coming from “a source inside Google.”
Lastly, the report also mentions that the Pixel 8a will be sold in more regions around the world. In addition to the existing 21 countries, Pixel 8a will expand to the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. These added countries are based on electronic warranty information for 8A.
The Pixel 8a has already been leaked on a few occasions, and Google has even directly confirmed it. As mentioned, the device is likely to be released around I/O 2024, which is scheduled for May 14.
